Working with Nestinit

Start with your drawing. Move closer to production.

One workspace for preparing parts, choosing stock sizes and reviewing your sheet layouts.

True-shape nesting

Outer contours, inner contours, and the space between.

Nesting considers the geometry of each part. Outer contours and holes appear together; suitable layouts can also place parts inside holes.

You control part spacing, sheet edge margins and rotation across the project. Results are independently checked against the original part geometry.

01 / Preparation

Get your parts ready for the job.

DXF, DWG and SVG

Import supported 2D drawings, including standard planar DXF splines, ellipses and local blocks. Check drawing units and cutting layers before moving on.

Cutting and marking layers

Separate cutting contours from marking and information layers. Review both the geometry and the accompanying drawing information.

Split or group each drawing

Separate independent parts in a drawing, or carry them as a rigid group with their relative positions preserved. Set quantities for individual parts.

Scale and contour editing

Resize your parts. Remove an unwanted outer contour, such as a surrounding frame, then review the updated geometry.

Start without a drawing file

Seven basic shapes.
Your dimensions.

Rectangle, rounded rectangle, circle, ring, triangle, L-shape and chamfered rectangle. Add circular holes where suitable, and enter dimensions in millimeters or inches.

Sheet and nesting settings.

Saved sheet library

Save frequently used stock sizes. Combine different sizes and quantities in the same project.

Project-wide rotation

Choose free rotation, 90°, 180° or no rotation for the entire project. Free rotation also searches angles outside quarter turns.

Spreadsheet parts lists

Import quantities from CSV or XLSX files, or create parametric parts from rows. Review any row errors during import.

Take your layout with you as DXF.

Download a layout for each sheet. Supported DXF arcs, circles, polyline curves, splines and ellipses retain their CAD curve geometry in the output. The preview and nesting geometry approximate curves within a controlled tolerance. Local INSERT blocks are expanded into transformed entities before part preparation; the output uses that geometry. SVG curves may be converted into line segments within a tolerance during import.

DXF import requires planar 2D geometry. 3D entities, clipped blocks (XCLIP), external block references (XREF), malformed curves and unsafe block transforms are rejected. See the help guide for drawing preparation.

Nestinit plans layouts. It does not generate toolpaths, cutting sequences or machine-specific G-code. The search duration is an optimization budget, not a guarantee of a mathematical optimum.
